Here are some things that you will need to know about my class and how things will work this year...
WEBPAGE:
My webpage will stay up-to-date with what is going on in our class and any needed information will be found there. This will include due dates for all assignments, dates for quizzes and tests, web links that can be used for extra help on math homework, plus classroom and department rules.
HOMEWORK:
Students will be given classroom time each day to work on assignments. If the student is making good use of that time, there will not be a large amount of homework. All assignments that are not finished in class will become homework.
LATE WORK:
All work is expected to be turned in on time. Work is due when the class begins on the date the assignment is due. Most assignments will be graded at the beginning of class. Any time a paper is graded after that time, the assignment will be counted as late and will have a 30-point deduction for being 1-day late. The second day late will result in a 50-point deduction and it is the last day to turn the assignment in for any credit. A zero is assigned to any late assignment and remains a zero on the third day if no assignment is completed. A zero-sheet will be filled out by the student and brought home for a required signature so that a parent is aware of the late assignment. Once a 6-week grading period has ended, no grades will be accepted for late assignments/zeroes during that grading period.
TUTORIALS:
There will be 6 different opportunities during the week to receive additional help. The schedule will be Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. as well as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.
TESTS AND QUIZZES:
Per district policy, district created assessments will not leave the classroom. All others will be released to the student to take home. The district created assessments will be referenced as 'CSCOPE Tests' in the agenda. Test rework will be available in tutorials following a test for any student who makes below a 75. If problems are reworked correctly an adjustment to the test grade will be made. No test will be adjusted past the grade of 80. Quiz grades are final. The tutorial times allowed for test rework will be posted on the days tests are returned. A student will have one week from the day the test is returned to do the rework. Attending the tutorials to do the rework is not mandatory, but it will always be available.
DETENTIONS:
Detentions if needed will be served after school at my convenience. The tutorial bus will be available to bring the student home or the student can be picked up at 4:30 p.m. A detention is usually assigned for one of two reasons. One, a pattern of zeroes/missing work, and two, not getting a parent signature when required to do so. It is neither fun nor convenient and can be avoided by completing work and required tasks. If a detention is assigned, the student is expected to attend.
As with all things, communication is important and your child is important to this process. Your child is the first line of communication with a note or signature slip. This keeps the responsibility with your student. The second line of communication will be an email from me if the first line of communication breaks down. It is truly the most efficient use of time and often the most direct way. If a phone call is necessary, it will be made. Please make sure that your student's information is current with telephone numbers and email addresses.
I am looking forward to getting to know your student this year and helping him/her discover what a successful math student he/she can be...
Welcome back everyone...let's have a great start to this school year!!
