    CASEY HARL
Change is a given. Fear is optional. EXCELLENCE IS THE EXPECTATION!
Welcome back to School and Algebra 1

This is going to be a FANTASTIC year! Algebra 1 was my favorite math class in High School, and I am still very passionate about this subject! We are going to have a truly amazing time together.

It is my honor to have your child in my class this year. Thank you for your trust and support as we guide your child to achieve excellence.

Here are a few key points to remember about my classroom:

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

Classroom Expectations for Mr. Harl

1. Integrity - I will conduct myself with integrity at all times.
2. Respect - I will treat you with respect at all times, and will strive to provide you with specific feedback on your performance … both good and opportunities for improvement.
3. Listen - You can come and talk with me and I will listen to what you say and not judge you.
4. Tough - I will be tough, but fair.
5. Fun - We will have a good time in the class this year!

Classroom Expectations – Students

1. Integrity – You will conduct yourself with integrity at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, obeying all school rules and not cheating, lying, or stealing.
2. Respect – Teacher, Classmates, and their possessions - Treat others as you would want them to treat you. This includes no name calling, use of appropriate language, keeping your hands to yourself, being in your seat when the bell rings, allowing others to speak, and no threats or bullying.
3. Hard work – If you give 100% effort to this class, you will not fail it. I expect you to do the assignments, come to tutoring when needed, and make an effort to learn the material.
4. Class participation – Come to class prepared, be willing to share. Obviously, you can’t participate if you aren’t here, so please make every effort to be in your seat before the bell rings. Also, do not check your brain at the door. You will need it!
5. Accountability – Hold me accountable to my Integrity, Respect, and Listening expectations.

WEB PAGE:
I keep my webpage updated and any information that you need can be found there. Due dates for all assignments can be found and if there is a test or quiz coming up I have that posted on my web page in advance. Additionally, I will be adding links for various Algebra resources throughout the year.

DAILY WORK
Any daily work not completed in class will become homework.
• All work must be done in pencil and work must be shown on all problems to receive full credit.
• All assignments will be due TWO days after they are assigned.

QUIZZES
Quizzes may or may not be announced and will be over problems from previous daily work. Frequently, we will have quizzes daily.

TESTS
It is important to show up on test day prepared. I will usually give a review assignment that I suggest they complete to make sure they are prepared. Test rework will be available in tutorials following a test for any student who makes below a 75. If problems are reworked correctly an adjustment to the test grade will be made. No test will be adjusted past the grade of 80. Quiz grades are all final. The tutorial times allowed for test rework will be posted on the days tests are returned. Attending the tutorials to do test rework is not mandatory, but it will always be available.

ABSENCES
After an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to get any assignments from Mr. Harl’s web page or the posted agenda on the board. Questions about late homework assignments should be reserved for tutorial periods. Additionally, it is the student’s responsibility to turn in any work missed within the time amount allowed per the student hand book, 1 late day for each day absent. Tutorials will be the place to receive help over any topic that the student missed. Quizzes or tests that are missed must be made up in tutorials.

LATE WORK
Every assignment is expected to be turned in on time and late work will not be accepted without an excused absence or in extreme situations which will need to be discussed with me in person.
• Any late work must be graded by the student during tutorials or it will receive a zero.

CONFERENCE TIME AND PARENT COMMUNICATION
My conference time is from 3:08 – 3:53. I can be reached through my email address, which is charl@ldisd.net or through the school office at 940-497-4037. I give out grade sheets every Monday with updated averages, so if you are curious as to how your child is doing in Algebra, please ask them to see their grade sheets on Monday afternoon. I also encourage you to check Family Access from the Lake Dallas ISD home page. Please contact the front office to sign up for this service. Additionally, I do a lot of communication through e-mail, so if you would prefer to communicate that way, please send me an e-mail so that I will have your address.

TUTORIALS
Tutorial times will change throughout the year. In general, math department tutorials will be held
• Morning – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
• Afternoon – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Additional times will be posted on my web page. All students need to get in the habit of making the choices they need to make in order to be successful. If tutorials are what they need, make sure they make that choice to come.
