JANICE SMITH
I am a native Texan who was born in Abilene and grew up in Dallas and Garland. I graduated from Garland High School in 1968. "GO OWLS!" I attended UNT and graduated with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education in 1975. I taught kindergarten and first grades from 1975-1977. From 1977-1989 I was a stay-at-home mom raising two children Jeff and Tracy. I returned to teaching in 1990 and taught ten years for Little Elm ISD and was "Teacher of the Year - 1998 -Little Elm Middle School". I received my Master's in Education with a reading certification in 1994. I began teaching 6th grade language arts for Lake Dallas in 2000 and have taught for LDISD for eleven years.

I have three grandchildren: Jeremy, Autumn, and Heaven. I have custody of Jeremy and he is entering 6th grade at LDMS this year. Jeremy and I have a chihuahua-pug mix named Buddy. My interests include reading, Boy Scouts, playing board games with Jeremy, movies, and visiting relatives, especially my mom and granddaughters.

I believe that every student has a right to learn and be successful, and I believe in the learning potential of everyone of my students. Children are our future. "I touch the future. I teach." (Christa McAuliffe)
