Key understandings for the 4th six weeks: Greek/Latin words; context clues; analogies; synthesizing; paraphrasing; mythology; variety of poetry; characters dialogue and staging in a play; linear plot; point of view; main idea; fact and opinion; writing process; complex inferences and textual support.

Week of January 2nd
Monday - no school for students
Tuesday - journal writing; Latin/Greek review activity; introduction to "Phantom of the Opera"
Wednesday - "Phantom" vocabulary list one; begin play
Thursday - CScope assessment; Success for Teens
Friday - complete CScope assessment; continue "Phantom"

Week of January 9
Monday - class reading from "The Death of Balder" pg. 1024, "Coyote Steals the Sun and the Moon" pg. 1026; "Phantom", Quiz Review
Tuesday - Quiz: Phantom (setting, flashback, foreshadow, mood/tone, dialogue, state direction, inference) and Vocab. list 1; analogies; "Phantom"; assign partner brochure
Wednesday - Friday - work and complete partner brochure; complete individual research paper (see "Class Notes and Web Assignments" for further direction)

Monday - no school
Tuesday - assign Mask Project (due 02/01); Vocab. list 2; "Phantom"; Analogy worksheets
