Class Materials and Procedures
Students will be expected to bring the following items to class each day:
Notebook Paper, Pen or Pencil, Moose Binder, and Note cards
Zero and Late Work Policy
Language Arts teachers at the middle school strongly encourage students to complete work in a timely manner. In the event that work is not turned in on time, the following grade reductions will occur:
Assignments turned in one day late will result in a 10-point grade reduction.
Assignments turned in two days late up to one week late will result in a 30-point grade reduction.
All assignments for the week will be posted on the board Monday through Friday, and each student will be required on Monday to write the assignments in their agenda provided by our school. This is an easy way for students to see what is expected (class work) of them each week. Students and parents also have access to my e-mail. My website should have each week of the 6 weeks listed with assignments. Each of these is a great way to keep up with your child’s school assignments. Vocabulary Lists and Greek and Latin Roots will also be posted on the website.
Classroom Expectations
1. Being seated and ready to work when the bell rings allows the class to begin promptly.
2. The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class.
3. Appropriate language allows everyone to participate.
4. Being respectful, acting responsible, and following all rules permits everyone to learn.
5. Recording classroom and homework assignments in your agenda increases your success.
6. Doing your best at all times helps to achieve your highest goals.
All students are expected to maintain the highest standards of behavior in class. Class rules are posted and must be followed. Any inappropriate behavior will be addressed with the student first. If the student is unable to correct the behavior, his or her parents will be contacted and the student will receive detention (s). Parents are encouraged to email me if you have any concerns about your child’s behavior.
In the event that I am ill and have a sub, students are expected to maintain self-control and respect the substitute teacher. If a student’s name is left by the substitute because of inappropriate behavior, that student will receive an afternoon detention. The student will receive an afternoon detention slip, which must be signed by his or her parent. Repetitive problems with substitutes will result in an office referral.
Class Folders
Each student will have his or her own Language Arts section in the MOOSE. When I return graded work, the student is expected to store it in his or her folder for the duration of the semester period. The student is responsible for keeping his folder clean and saving all papers. Please check your child’s agenda everyday for homework. This is a great way to let your child know you are interested in what he or she is doing and learning in school. This is a great communication system between you, your child and the teacher. The semester exam will be cumulative of the returned papers. Also, if a grade is questioned, the student will be responsible for producing the paper for a grade or change of grade.
Tutorials and Extra Help
Tutorials are offered Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:30 and Monday through Thursday afternoons. I meet with the Language Arts teachers on Tuesday mornings, and I will not be in my room until school begins. Tutorial buses will be available on Monday - Thursday afternoons and will pick your child up at LDMS at 4:30. I will have afternoon duty once a month for a week and will let students know in advance and will post it on my website.
Absentee Policy
A student will have as many days to complete his or her make-up work as he or she missed. However, if the assignment was pre-dated such as papers and projects, the student will be required to submit it on the original day.
