I am Ruth Bowen MS RN NCSN. I have been the Coordinator of Health Services and School Nurse in Lake Dallas ISD since 1991. My campus assignment is Lake Dallas Middle School. One question often asked is about the letters after my name. The “MS” means I have a Master of Science Degree in Nursing; “RN” means I am a registered nurse; “NCSN” means I am a nationally certified school nurse. Another often asked question is why I am a school nurse. I enjoy working with children of all ages and school health nursing is very different with challenges not experienced in other settings.
In Lake Dallas ISD we are fortunate to have a registered nurse (RN) on every campus. This means that our students have access to experienced, educated health care professionals who can help them identify health issues; provide health education and resources to assist the student, and the student’s family. The school nurse’s goal is to help the student to maintain optimum health so the student can learn better and stay in school.
Parents can locate health education information on the district and campus web sites and in the campus clinics.
